Cowboys Crush Giants 40-0
Description
The Cowboys crushed the Giants 40-0 in the season opener, thanks to a dominant defensive performance and two rushing touchdowns from Tony Pollard.
On Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys blew out the New York Giants 40-0 in their first game of the season.
Daniel Jones was sacked seven times by the Cowboys, and their offense scored on four of their first five possessions.
On the first play, Noah Igbinoghene returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown. Later in the first quarter, DaRon Bland scored on a pick-6. Tony Pollard scored two scores on runs, and KaVontae Turpin scored on a run of 7 yards in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys had 13 of Dak Prescott's 24 passes go for 143 yards.
For the Giants, Jones completed 15 of 28 passes for 104 yards.
It was the biggest shutout in the history of the rivalry between the Cowboys and the Giants. It was also the Cowboys' biggest clean win in any game since 1978.
The Cowboys' defense stole the show, with Micah Parsons making two sacks to lead the way. Parsons also made two stops that led to a loss of yards and caused a fumble.
The Cowboys' offense didn't have to do much, but they did enough to end the game early. Pollard led the Cowboys in rushing yards with 54, and he also caught two passes for 15 yards.
All night long, the Giants' offense struggled, and they never got anything going. Jones was taken out of the game four times in the first half, so he never got comfortable in the pocket.
The Giants' defense did everything it could to keep the game close, but the Cowboys' offense was just too good.
The Cowboys' win was a statement game that showed they are a threat in the NFC East this season. On the other hand, the Giants need to do some work if they want to be competitive in their division.
