Samara Joy's musical talent was inherited from her grandparents, Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon, who performed with a Philadelphia gospel group, the Savettes.  In 2019, while studying at the State University of New York at Purchase, Samara Joy won the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. This was a turning point in her career and marked the beginning of her rise to fame.
