AT 83,”A CHRISTMAS STORY” MOTHER MELINDA DILLON DIED.

    Melinda Dillon, who portrayed Mother Parker in "A Christmas Story" and also acted in "Magnolia" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," passed away on January 9. She was 83 years old.



Her passing was announced by the Neptune Society.

Dillon is renowned for her performance as Jillian Guiler in Steven Spielberg's 1977 film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," for which she was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of supporting actress.
